Summer Fun with your DOG

Now that the fourth of July has passed, we were wondering at FETCH what to do next this summer with our dogs? So we came up with a few great ideas. Whether you and your four legged friends prefer nights out in town or nature walks, there are plenty of places to chose from on Long Island. Hampton beaches and local North Shore parks offer a casual, adventurous escape from our daily pressures.

Hamptons Beaches: As we approach the hotter months, it’s always nice to cool off with a day at the beach, especially with your pups in tow. Cupsogue Beach of West Hampton is the perfect place to do that. This beautiful beach allows both you and your companion to enjoy the salty air together while meeting other dog lovers. This is a great break from your everyday routine so don’t forget to pack for your pup as well as yourself as dogs are not allowed on the boardwalks or in the food concessions. What better way to have fun on the beach than with toys made for the water? At FETCH we have a nautical collection of toys, some that float! A playful, refreshing day of sand and surf will be a cherished memory for sure.

Fire island: A popular place for our dog loving friends has to be Cherry Grove, Fire Island. The pet friendly and frequent service of the Sayville Ferry departing from Sayville, New York, allows easy transportation over to Cherry Grove with your four legged friends. Dogs on leashes are permitted on the beach and boardwalks. There are several restaurants that are dog friendly where you can dine outdoors with your doggie. One of FETCH’s favorites is Floyd’s for breakfast or lunch. When you place your order at the register, don’t forget to help yourself to a dog treat from the treat jar on the counter. This charming restaurant is in the center of town and is a great place to enjoy great food and people watch.

Sagamore Hill National Historic Site: A perfect adventure for people and dogs who love nature. These eighty three acres of forested areas, meadows, salt marsh and beach are home to birds, small mammals, turtles, and frogs located in Oyster Bay . Offering long paths and nature trails providing a wonderful place to walk and relax with your pet. This outstanding venue offers picnic areas as well, so don’t forget to pack something delicious for you and your hiking companion. Nature trails can sometimes be muddy, our Up Country collars, leashes and harnesses at FETCH are both durable and WASHABLE.

Coindre Hall: Located in Huntington, this 34 acre park offers beautiful views as well as room to roam and explore. The long hill down from the Mansion, built between 1906-12 to resemble a Medieval French Chateau, leads to a beach where you and your pup will enjoy the breathtaking views of the Long Island Sound. Although there are signs that dogs must remain leashed at all times, not all owners obey that rule and allow their dogs to roam freely. The field is large enough for you to bask in the sun or get comfy in some shade while you play with your best friend and meet other dog lovers like yourself. With so much room to play, a game of catch with Harry Barker tennis balls available at FETCH, will provide great exercise for you and your pet.

Northport Village: If you are looking for a relaxing night in town or just a place to stroll with your pup, Northport Village offers both. Between the two dog friendly sections of the Harbor Front park and numerous outdoor restaurants, the opportunities are endless. At FETCH, we love the breakfast at Copenhagen Bakery where your food will be delivered to your table outside or a nice dinner at Northport Feed and Grain on the outdoor patio with our dogs. The park offers multiple picnic areas, where on Friday nights from 7-8:30 pm you can enjoy live music . After that you can grab a fantastic frozen dessert from Rocking Horse Ice Cream Shop where they also serve treats for your canine friend.
